The Mediterranean way is a lifelong holiday!

Science recently proved that the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest for your gut.

But why?

And what does this diet consist of?

Stuffed aubergine with tomato rice and parmesan cheese

Stuffed aubergine is one of our favourite recipes in our Only Summer cookbook

Menu Plan

People living in the Mediterranean region have a wide choice of fruits and vegetables all year round due to the mild climate of the subtropics. Owing to this, olives are native to countries such as Greece, Italy and Spain. Therefore, healthy fats such as olive oil are produced locally and added to this diet. At our luxury villa LA FINCA we have our own olive trees to make our own organic olive oil. Lots of whole grains are also on the Mediterranean menu as well as a moderate amount of fish freshly caught.

Relaxed Lifestyle

However, nutrition is only one part of this southern way of life. Food helps little if you are always stressed, sleep deprived and set work before health. That is why Spanish people invented something called ‘siesta’. A break during midday where people sleep a couple of hours and in the old days most people had even their shops closed. Another important concept, especially in Spain, is ‘mañana mañana’. Which translates to tomorrow tomorrow. What this means? That procrastination is a lifestyle here, which definitely reduces blood pressure and stress. At least on the servicing side. Therefore, travellers should just do as the locals do and chill. Because there is absolutely nothing they can do to accelerate the process, say of your car being repaired at the local garage. It will be ready when it is ready or when the mechanic needs space in his workshop. So lean back in one of our comfy outdoor chairs at our Mediterranean holiday homes and let life be a little.

Quality Time

What is the 21st century’s most valuable resource?

Gold? Profane.

Diamonds? Please…

No, it’s: T I M E

And that is something Greek, Italian, French, Portuguese, Spanish and all the other cultures living in the Mediterranean region have understood very well. That is why sundays are usually reserved for family. Lunching together and long walks are the thing to catch up with the latest gossip while processing the yummy dishes. Besides, walking alongside the turquoise sea has its own attraction. Meeting friends and spending time without looking down on your phone but having real conversations is balm for your soul. All this usually takes place outside no matter the weather.
