New Year’s Resolutions

Walking alongside Palma’s Beach doesn’t feel like exercise but being alive.

… that are easy to integrate and will stick!

As the new year has just begun, many of us are looking for sustainable ways to improve our health and lifestyle. Two simple yet powerful resolutions that can make a significant difference are increasing physical activity and improving our diet. What better way to achieve these goals than by exploring the charming streets of Palma de Mallorca or walking alongside the capital’s beach while embracing a healthier lifestyle?

Walking your way to wellness

Palma’s old town is perfect to make your 10k steps while exploring fascinating architecture.

Sitting too much can have negative effects on health, potentially increasing the risk of overall mortality. And we do sit too much as many scientific studies show. Making a resolution to walk more is an easy and attainable goal that can be tailored to fit your lifestyle.

In Palma's old town, you have the perfect opportunity to combine exercise with exploration. The narrow, pedestrian-friendly streets are ideal for a leisurely stroll, especially during the magical festivity season when the area is adorned with twinkling lights.

A healthy culinary journey

Complementing your walking resolution, adding more vegetables to your diet is another fantastic way to improve your health. Research shows that following a whole-foods-based diet can significantly reduce heart disease risk factors, body weight, and blood sugar levels. Palma offers an incredible solution with its vibrant vegan restaurant scene. We tasted one particular choice for you: Can n’Ela !

Hidden in a side street near the catehdral and the habour, you’ll find a vegan gem!

A vegan gem hidden in Palma

This luxury vegan spot in the La Lonja neighbourhood is known for innovative and colorful cuisine. Ela and her daughter Andrea opened their little gem back in 2021. The restaurant name means “House of Ela” and that is what this restaurant really feels like. This cosy gem has eight tables on the ground floor, with another high table looking out to the street. Then on the first floor you got some more tables. Be sure to make reservations as this secret is already well known to veggies fans.

Ca n'Ela in the small street Carrer del Mar isn't just a restaurant - it's a plant-based culinary manifesto. The verdant living walls breathe organic authenticity and a high ceiling decorated with sun-drenched Mares stone create an aesthetic surrounding that make you feel at home.

What to taste?

More protein in your diet is always a good start adding also a lot of fibers. So why not try the seitan with sweet potato in a lemon sauce. Or the raw beetroot ravioli and cashew cheese…

This culinary combination was an explosion to the senses, sweet, sour and crunchy at the same time. Be sure to take some starters before the main course such as the soup of the day.

And of course the desserts are more than yummy! It was very difficult to decide between the peanut brownie and the chocolate-hazelnut wafer-cake. So to all the meat-enthusiasts out there, plant-based meals can be fulfilling and yummy if prepared in such an artistic way. Furthermore, the prices here are reasonable too… We will be definitely coming back here.

Walking Route Recommendation

Starting at the Plaça d'Espanya is always a good idea…

How to get to this exclusive but hidden restaurant? Well, we have prepared a little walking routine for you:

Why not start your journey at the Plaça d'Espanya, then make your way through the charming Carrer Sant Miquel. Stop at the historic Plaça Cort with the old town hall, where you can admire an 800-year-old olive tree and soak in the festive Christmas atmosphere. The narrow streets, historic buildings, and twinkling lights will make your walk both enjoyable and nutritious. After passing the street down towards the cathedral, walk down to the artificial lake and turn right into the La Lonja district. Parallel to the main road, which runs along the sea you’ll find the Carrer del Mar with Ca n’Ela.

By combining walking through Palma's enchanting old town and discovering its delicious vegan restaurants, you'll be making your New Year's resolutions not just a goal, but an exciting adventure. Remember, the key to sustainable resolutions is making them enjoyable and achievable.
